Pathways to the Bench: Region IX Hosts Statewide Judicial Conference
On June 7, 2024, Region IX co-hosted a full-day statewide conference with the California Lawyers Association entitled “Pathways to the Bench.” The program featured several lawyers and judges from Region IX and other bar associations.
Attendees learned in detail how to become a federal or state trial or appellate judge from people involved in the decision-making process. It was a powerful event attended by lawyers, judges, and law students from all over California.
Region IX hosted Pathways to the Bench in 2024. It has become one of the most preeminent programs in the State of California for anyone who wants to be a judge, with several Black judges from across the state participating in the event.
Region IX has one of the most developed programs focused on getting new Black judges appointed to the bench in the United States. The program has helped get more than 90 Black judges appointed to federal and state trial and appellate courts throughout the region.
