Region IX Participates in California Legislative Day in Sacramento

Region IX co-hosted a legislative day at the California State Capitol that featured affiliate presidents from across the region. Region IX members met with members of the California Assembly, California Senate, and the California Governor’s office regarding proposed legislation and the implications for Black and Brown people, and proposed legislation of its own designed to uplift the community.

Region IX also advised members of the Legislative Black Caucus on the constitutionality of proposed legislation and strategies for navigating legislation designed to help the Black community.

Members of Region IX also testified at multiple hearings at the California State Capitol regarding legislation potentially impacting the Black and Brown communities. The bills ranged from education to health care to disparities in prosecution.

Region IX members also participated in Sacramento with bar association leaders from across California as part of CLA’s Legislative Day, speaking with elected officials regarding issues of importance to the community.
